Travel Information

Kenanow Lodge can be reached entirely by air, entirely by driving, or most typically a combination of both. In most instances our visitors fly into the regional airport of Flin Flon (YFO), where we pick them up in our lodge vans, and drive them the remaining 113 kilometers (71 miles). Ground transportation to and from Flin Flon is included in all of our packages.

Flight Information
The two commercial airlines that service Flin Flon are:
   Calm Air
   Bearskin Airlines

Clicking on the names of the airlines above should open a new windows with their websites, and there you should be able to determine flight availability and costs.

The drive from the airport at Flin Flon to Kenanow Lodge takes approximately 75 minutes, but if you prefer to fly the remaining distance from Flin Flon to our lodge (or back to Flin Flon from our lodge), we can arrange this with a local float plane pilot, at an approximate cost of $600 (US) one way for a party of one to four.

Area Map
Click here for a reasonably good area map obtained from Mapquest®. If this fails, open a new window and go to www.mapquest.com, click on Maps, indicate the country as Canada, and then the city and state as Sherridon and MB (Manitoba). You should be able to zoom in and out, and/or go left and right.

What to Bring
We expect you to bring your own fishing gear, but if you can't let us know well in advance so that we can accomodate you. For Walleye most fishermen prefer light gear (ultra light 4lb test line to light 6lb test). For Northern Pike and Lake Trout, medium to heavy gear (8lb test to 20lb test) is appropriate. Even so it's not at all unusual for fishermen to bring in big fish with light gear or small fish with heavy gear.

A broad range of spoons, jigs, spinners, and tails can have great success, especially with the Walleye and Northern Pike. If you want to ask about more specific lures and styles, give us a call and we'll try to answer any such questions.

Along with your fishing gear be sure to bring along:
   Rain gear (pants and jacket)
   Sunglasses
   Hat or cap
   Sunscreen
   Insect Repellant
   Water Resistant Footwear
   Some Warm Clothing
   Some Light Clothing

Also consider:
   Cameras, film, rechargers as needed
   Toiletries & Medications
Prefered snacks that might be unavailable here
   Cigarettes, cigars, other tobacco products
Up to 200 cigarettes, 50 cigars, or 200 grams (7 oz) loose tobacco allowed without duties
   Wine or hard spirits
Up to 1.5 litres of liquor or wine allowed without duties
Don't bring beer! Our Canadian beers are excellent

Necessary Documents
As an adult travelling from the USA to Canada you must have either:
A valid and current passport; or
Both a certified copy of your birth certificate, and your driver's license.

Someone under 18 years of age accompanying an adult to Canada must have either:
A valid and current passport; or
A certified copy of his/her birth certificate.

Be sure to have these on hand when you get to the airport, as most airlines will not allow you onto a flight headed to Canada without them, and many fine vacation plans have been ruined by lack of them.
